Title: Nostos
Word Count: 100
Challenge: for [livejournal.com profile] ka100 challenge 20 "Ithaca"
Warnings: Spoilers for the end of the movie (follows theatrical version).

As Lancelot hurls his sword at his killer with the last of his strength, he casts away with it the long anger that has sustained him. He becomes vaguely aware that he has fallen, but all he thinks of is home.

The sounds of the battlefield fade, and he can almost hear the wind in the tall grasses, the thunder of free-running horses, his father’s voice in his ear. Father used to lull him to sleep with tales of the warrior who survived an interminable war only to spend years voyaging home. Lancelot’s own journey will not take so long.

Hey, I didn't write the movie script--so it's not my fault this time. ; )

Thanks, I'm glad you liked!

Simply sublime, Amari.

It left me breathless.

What a lovely gift of words you've given us.

Oh dear -- that IS Ithaca in a drabble. Succinct, precise, and very evocative of the parallels between the two heroes' journeys: they only fight to go home.

Sad, and beautiful as the music of the wind in the wild grasses.

I'm hanging in there, not sure exactly what that means, but that's what they say.

I wish it was Spring or summer, winter is always more demanding on my well being.

The trees without leaves, standing bare have their own kind of beauty though, like that icon.

Winter can be tough--but maybe think of it also as the time when nature stores up its strength so that it can bloom in spring. My best wishes to you.

Lancelot's journey has taken a long time and ended abruptly. And this speaks to that so well.

As usual, a great job.
