King Arthur Drabble: Unbreakable

Title: Unbreakable
Word Count: 100
Warnings: None
Character/Pairing: Tristan (!)
Challenge: For [livejournal.com profile] ka100 challenge 19: drabble on drabble. Written in response to [livejournal.com profile] scout_lover's drabble The Pact.

Tristan had believed the end of the knights’ service to Rome would dissolve all bonds. What else, after all, had tied Tristan to the others? But as they depart the Wall together, he has no thought of slipping away to go forth alone.

Even the parting they had assumed they had chosen is not to be. After the knights silently reach accord, Tristan sets free his hawk and realizes the long years, the ties of blood and pain, are not so mutable.

Perhaps some bonds cannot be broken in this life.

He will yet see what change death might bring.

Oh, this is wonderfully done - and the idea at the end is simply haunting!

Thanks for sharing! :D

Thanks Dea! It was a fun idea for a prompt--it got me to try to write about someone else besides Arthur and Lancelot anyway (but maybe just this once). ; )

Ooh, I love how this moment is just suspended in time while the whole of the knights' life together is played out.

Haunting, indeed!

Especially that last line - that Tristran thought death was inevitable and he did not fear it. Wow, very powerful! Very Tristran.

Thanks very much! I'm glad you liked it--a bit of a departure from my usual. : )

the ties of blood and death, are not so mutable.

That's for sure!

I loved that line. I actually looked the word up to be sure I got it.

Your usual good job, still making me think.

Oh, amari, I love this! What a wonderful extension of my drabble!

Perfect! And lovely. And I love how you picked up on all of them deciding at once, without a word spoken, to stay. I always have to cheer at that part (g).

Beautifully done!

Hee. It means a lot that you liked it! I was looking through the community's memories and your fic hooked my attention.

Yes! I love that moment of unspoken communication--it says so much about the knights' relationship.

Thanks for reading! : )
