King Arthur Drabble: "Kept From Grace"
Dec. 15th, 2005 10:56 pmTitle: Kept From Grace
Word Count: 100
Notes: For
ka100 challenge #17: Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem: As kingfishers catch fire, dragonflies draw flame. Text of poem is here.
Some miles south of the garrison there is a plain, not wide to Sarmatian eyes, and the grasses are not so tall, the colors wrong, and the sky too low, but--
Here, he and the horse run, free as the sweep of the wind. The pound of hooves is the beat of his heart, the whip of the air the flight of his spirit, the exhilaration the flow of his blood. Here, there are no soldiers, no battles, no confining walls of stone. There is only horse and horseman, and he is briefly again what he was born to be.

Date: 2005-12-16 03:49 pm (UTC)I was transported to that plain! And what a sight to behold!
You can take the boy out of Sarmatia, but you can't take Sarmatia out of the boy. Both a blessing and a curse. I could *really* feel that here.
Reading your drabble this morning was the perfect way to start my day.
Thanks!
