Title: The Undone Years
Author: amari
Word Count: 100
Challenge: #4: “To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time”
Characters/Pairings: Lancelot, Arthur
Author’s Notes: Title taken again from Wilfred Owen’s “Strange Meeting” (“Strange friend,” I said, “here is no cause to mourn.”/“None,” said the other, “save the undone years,/The hopelessness.”). Feedback will only encourage me.

When Lancelot finds the strands of white amidst Arthur’s dark curls, he says nothing. He has long teased Arthur about the furrows in his brow—too much frowning, Lancelot claims—but this new discovery fills him with a strange heaviness.

Later, he studies his own reflection. Since he was taken from his home, he has willed time to speed its pace so the years might fly by swift as horses, but he stares at himself now and tastes the bitter realization that it is in this place, dealing senseless death, that the years of his youth have been utterly spent.

Oh my. Brava!

You're a wonderful writer.

Your use of language and turn of phrases is so skillful.

This is really beautiful. I can't pick anything in particular out, because it's completely organic. And so true. And so melancholy.
