I have more fun with polls

Because I chortled with glee over the last one (yes, I am easily amused), and because I recently read someone complaining about dark backgrounds and light text as a page design, and because I don't want to torture anyone who's actually interested in reading something I might post: A poll.

Far less exciting than the title might suggest. But seriously, especially for those of you who are nice enough to read the longer posts behind the cuts (i.e., fics), does the format bother you? Personally, I like it because it's less glaring on the eyes, but I'm not really the one reading my posts.

Here are my two cents: I love your color scheme; the white text on a dark background really makes your layout visually striking, IMHO. However, when I'm posting a comment in your style, I can't see the cursor, since it defaults to white. I'm sure that there's a css override for that, but I don't think you have an external style sheet or a theme layer set-up. No biggie, really.

Procrastinating is a good thing. I often enjoy using blogs and blogging to help procrastinate.

Yes I've noticed the disappearing cursor issue as well, but I've no idea how to fix it (I'm teh ignorant when it comes to web stuff--I just randomly click boxes on the LJ customization pages until something shiny happens). I've just been going to preview when it's gotten too much on my nerves.

Thanks! I like it as well, but having been told (in a general way) that black background, white text was hard to read, I wondered if I was an aberration.

There's a way to give you a more visible cursor. You've got a paid account, so if you ever decide to create a theme layer to customize your layout, you could either change the background color of the textinput box, the textcolor in the box, or change the cursor to either crosshair or help, or wait, or have the directional arrow so it's visible. If you get bored enough to decide to do that, let me know, I'll walk you through it as we use the same base layout.

Unfortunately, most of that sounded like blah, blah, blah to me (completely my fault, not yours). Are you saying that I could change the background color of the box I'm currently typing in? I'm not really interested in having a picture as a background of my lj (like you and Ashely have) (if that's what a theme layer is) because I get irritated with anything my eye perceives as busy very quickly--I can't bear, for instance, to have anything but a solid color on my desktop. If there's a nonpainful way to simply change the color of the comment box, I might be game to try it at some point--although given the anti-knowledge I'm currently displaying, you might not want to attempt to walk me though it. :P

I used to be intimidated by all of this stuff, as I've only had my lj since September 2005, and before that had never seen any HTML/css coding. I've never taken a class, but joined the s2flexisquares community, and learned from the tutorials and from other coders. The theme layer allows you to customize pretty much anything on your journal. The background I'm speaking of is the background color of the text box that you type your reply and comments in in the replyto page. And you don't have to add anything that you don't want (like a garish background, LOL).

Basically, it opens up the base layout to overrides, and since I do believe I've figured out most of the codes for this layout, I can just type things out for you to cut and paste. For instance, you can actually isolate the font/color of the title of your journal, while leaving the Recent Entries, etc. in another font/color. The customization wizard in edit customization only allows for so much change. With a theme layer, anything is pretty much tweakable.

I've done it for a couple of friends, and I can email you a step-by-step tutorial over the weekend for whatever you want to change; you'll just have to cut and paste. Standing offer, if ever you really get bored.

Perhaps that particular person does have a problem. For some reason in their vision it might give them problems. But as for myself I never noticed anything about it that made it difficult for me to read the words.

My sis has what's called night blindness. She can see but it's a little tricky for her when she drives at night. The space relations of distance and side objects are hard for her and the lights from other cars seem intense for her.

Good to know. I'm a bit clueless about web design "principles" so I had wondered if I was alone in liking reading inverted text. I unfortunately spend most of my day in front of a computer, so anything that reduces whiteness gets my vote.
